There was once an Alicante tomato that rolled onto the greenhouse floor.

One little seed survived. One little seed was a 4" high plant that was found when the greenhouse was cleared out last autumn. Growing on a skim of soil about 1/8" deep.

My wife named it Alfie. He now had to survive and was properly potted up and given prime windowsill space. We watched as Alfie grew leggy overwinter then cut him back in March. The new shoot took off and produced flowers a little closer down.

Yesterday Alfie showed us his appreciation by giving us a ripe, tasty, tomato. He has another just blushing and I dare to hope this might be the end of supermarket tomatoes. (I have early sown Latah already with green fruit)

on a smiliar vain, we had sown a tray of mellons this year , 1 has come through, however in the polytunnel 5 have sprouted from seeds after last year
