Pear tree problem

Went to my parents today and in their garden they have a new pear tree which has only been in the garden about 6 months. The tips of the tree are curling up and they don't know what is happening ( I don't either ) MOH reckons it could be lack of water ?

Something eating it? Or are those distorted leaves? I can't really see.

Could that be a bit of weedkiller damage?

Uncurl the leaf, and see if there are any eggs or larvae in there. I'm thinking it could be Pear leaf midge. If so, just remove and burn affected leaves to break the breeding cycle.

I think I would be tipping that tree to make for a bushier tree. More branches, more fruit.

It's a brand new tree my parents put in their garden. When I pop over over again I'll take another look at the leaves, and yes I think they are leaves which have curled.

Excuse my ignorance but does "tipping" mean cutting off those ends you see in the photo.

I think I'd want to see more of the tree before I made up my mind to do any pruning!

Just checked the leaves and have spotted little green aphids dotted around. At least we know the problem now.
