Christmas New Potatoes?

Just wondering if anyone has had sucess this year growing new potatoes for Christmas?

I thought my late planting of Charlotte  potatoes were zilch as they came to an early end with late blight 
But, I've just been to check the planters on the off chance and found some lovely looking baby new potatoes 
Only enough for a feed or two  made me smile though  .

I know the 'smiley feeling'...nothing better than that I hope they taste good too....

I didn't get round to do any this year, BUT...I did eventually get round to digging last row of late potatoes...tops took ages to die down and then I forgot it all. So few weeks ago I finally did remembered...and they are LOVELY..and being so long under ground..they are almost as 'tender' and 'new' tasting as true new potatoes They'll do for us.
I did grow loads of Albert Bartlett this summer, those that are advertised in telly at the moment for roasties, they are all put away in shed and now waiting the first tasting session in Xmas
And they all started from small punnet that was reduced in shop...those stupid 'sale by dates' again..I kept them in storage over winter, chitted and planted them...

Just made our traditional Christmas salad and the Anyas and Charlottes were still very good.  Took somebody's advice on this forum (sorry can't remember who it was, but a 'thankyou' thought went out).  Boiled them for a few minutes only, then switched off and let them finish in the saucepan by themselves with lid on.  Also I chose the smallest potatoes (big ones will be roasted with the turkey) and boiled them in their skins.

And these were the nicest, firmest salad potatoes when I cut them up for the salad, every bit as good as freshly harvested.  The thought of brand-new Christmas potatoes is very appealing, but perhaps more hype than necessity?
