Why all the dressing

We grow wonderful vegetables and then we get "cooks" like Jamie Oliver telling us we need to add dressings, why do we need to ruin the natural taste of things we have grown. :BangHead:

Because the veg we buy in the shops tastes RUBBISH!
I'm always shocked when I have to buy stuff, we grow all our own, so this happens very rarely. If we have to buy some, I get it organic which is ok, but we can't always do that.

They do the same with meat and fish too. Watched one cooking fresh river salmon and by the time they had finished with the extras you would not have known if it was salmon or pollack!

Used wisely, herbs, flavourings, sauces and dressings enhance the ingredients.   Well grown meat, fruit and veg need no disguise but just something to bring out the flavours.

My mum always said the French invented so many sauces to disguise the poor quality of their meat whereas British meat had always been good quality.  That was in the 60s before factory farming and chemicals were endemic.   Italian cuisine is so popular because it relies on doing little to good ingredients, cheap or expensive.

As we are on an allotment website I was speaking of veg we grow rather than what we buy, but I would still rather taste the food rather than the additives. You do not seem to be able to get a salad in a restaurant without it being dosed with oil. I will not now eat salad outside of our home.

I always insist on "no dressing" as I actually don't like it

I am also amazed as well on the amount of salt that gets 'wacked' in.   It is so unhealthy.   In the end you start to taste and veg and not the salt.

It is not only the quality of the food but how long before it reaches the plate.  Quite a lot of mine is harvested and eaten within an hour.

Quite of the dishes on tv have very little veg at all, I look at it and say what I would like with that is a good portion of carrots, broccoli and beans not a few tarted up miserable specimens.

Hear hear. I read a lot of books, and the people in there are always having pizzas or burgers or whatever and never eat any veg. And of course coffee (with Danish pastries usually) or alcohol. No wonder they all kill or get killed in the end, or in the beginning for that matter. I am a crime novel addict!

PS could anyone please remind me how to get these smilies on ... you can guess which I'd like to put on here!
