Garlic - is september really too early to plant

I've jumped the gun and as an impulsive shopper just bought what looks like some healthy looking Autumn planting Marco garlic.  Is it too early to plant; when's the earliest they can go in......is it a case of waiting for the temperature to stay permanently below a certain level?

We usually wait until late September early October. Your garlic will keep for a few weeks if you keep it cool. garden websites are going to be selling it this month anyway.
