I went up to pick the runner beans today. 3.5lbs there was.
I was amazed at the buzzing around the bean plants. Was alive with bees, oh good oh!!
Anyway I tried to capture the bees at work but I couldn't get a good pic, they kept moving off to quick and hiding from me!
Did get this lovely pic of dear old slow Bumble, that I thought I'd share.

Thanks for sharing such a great picture.  Must admit we don't appear to have any honey bee's localy at all.  Only seen lots of bumble bee's this year.

Great pic.  I have spent ages trying to get pictures of bees.  They seem to disappear when you press the button.

We also have almost no honey bees though there were lots when the apples were in flower, now it seems to be the year of the wasp.

I picked beans today - then gave most away!  But I picked a big bag of wild blackberries so I still came home with the goods.

Unwashed,  you should do what I do, instead of giving them away, just ask for a donation to your charity.
I put £1 a week in a jar for dog rescue. If I give away beans, gooseberries, chutney or jam etc, I just ask for a little something for the rescue dogs  :)

Great pic, jessands. I love bee watching, there are so many different types 
We've just picked over 8 lbs of runner, purple podded and dwarf beans. Because they did so badly last year, I think I planted too many, mind you the food bank people are grateful for the surplus

Runners have been poor for me this year.  Loads of lush green growth but they are not setting and I was just talking about the complete lack of bees on them to a mate yesterday.  It is a bit odd as we have hives at the end of the site and they should be very active - plenty of heat and light.

Honeybees can't reach the nectar unless the back of the flower has been bitten through. You need bumblebees for runners.

Next year grow some Borage at the end of the row, 1 plant between the sticks at each end. More bees than you could imagine. Makes a great contribution to the compost bin at seasons end, just like comfrey. The leaves add a" cucumber chill "to soft drinks too!

Robert, I did notice all the bees were at the back of the flowers, which was why I couldn't get a pic, then they buzzed off too quick!
