I am looking to set up in business as a sole trader and have registered my web domain name.  Where is best to go to host my new site?  Could you please tell me who you use or where best to go for the service.  I have looked at 2 host sites so far but do not really understand the jargon of it all.  I wont be selling items or taking money from sales.  It will be all advertising business services available.  Good and bad experiences please.

I have always used newnet a firm based in Fareham in Hampshire, it costs about 3.50 a month  but I am able to alter everything as & when I need to & the biggest plus for me is that there is always a very nice local human being on the phone when I muck things up or forget how to do something as I write my own web pages.

I have used i-page http://www.ipage.com/ipage/index.html for about 12 years, never had a problem with them, they consistently get good reviews, have 2 businesses and use them for both :-)

Your choice may in part be driven by the software that you use to create the web pages.

If you do it all on your PC and simply upload the final pages to the hosting site then you can choose from any hosting company.

However, if you rely on specific software / databases being on the hosting site that may limit your choice and/or impact on the cost.

Fyi - I use 123-reg. Their starter package is currently £3 per month (inc. VAT). Support is ok. I do not rely on any web creation software at the host end. I use Kompozer on the PC to create the pages and upload them using FileZilla (both free software). The main downside is that they recently removed statistics from their starter package. You can have stats but only if you are on their business package which is currently £6 per month (inc. VAT).
