Is anyone growing strawberries on trestles?  I am find picking them rather difficult.  Are they successful and what sort of trestles are you using,

Do you put the runner into grow bags in the Autumn?

Many thanks.

Being half asleep I miss read the title, it sounded a bit painful for a while. Will wait for answers on runners though.

Growing some in troughs, planted up in spring. It's the watering/ feeding I find hard to keep up with. They're on a table in the garden  :happy7:

We find hanging baskets best.

I am growing strawberries on a table top and also did  last year. Two levels with a grobag on each, having planted the runners straight into the bags last year, I decided to invest in gro pots for this year as watering/feeding was pretty difficult. I have 6 small pots on each bag and 2 plants in each pot. Watering and feeding is now very much easier and the plants are very productive. I keep them under net. I am cutting off all the runners this year and will also cut them next year then will save runners in year 3. The plants will be fine in the same grobag for 3 years. I feed just about every watering

re winter, we will move the bags off the stand and onto the ground by a wall as this will give some frost protection and I can also use fleece if needed

I saved a lot of runners  last year and re potted them in more gro pots standing 2 in a trough, they are doing well this year and I am expecting them to be very productive next year

I also have 4 sets of towers holding 6 plants each, they are reasonable but watering is tricky. They are 3 tiers high and I put marigolds in the bottom tier and filled the top surfaces with pebbles, which seem to help a bit, as a sort of mulch

I planted all my runners and young plants in spring and trimmed and `combed` the roots on the young plants. I personally would not bother in autumn as the new soil gives a good boost in spring and anyway some die over winter. Last winter I emptied the tiers and troughs, this was before buying gro pots and I shoved about 8 plants in a trough just to over winter. It worked fine come spring when I finally planted properly
