I see the new seed potatoes are in the garden centres, we usually have to wait until they have cleared all the Christmas things. Will get some tomorrow ready to chit, we used to get them via an allotment group before we moved but the Garden centre is about the same price.

Gosh that seems early. Are they earlies or maincrop too?
I'm chitting potatoes here, but they are saved seed not the real deal.

Did somebody mentioned CHITTING!
I'm still pulling blankets over my shoulder..in hibernation mode..

..maybe I too need to get into early action.. but then with my luck, I'm risking to send the whole country under 4ft of show and ice...

They have the whole range earlies,2nd earlies, main crop etc.  I have for many years had rocket, kestral and cara but may try a few Winston this year as a chap with a plot close by mine had a good crop and gave me a few to try.

My order has been in for over  a month now but our supplier never moves them if there is any hint of frost about, and apparently there is in Scotland.

But I do expect to get them possibly in mid January!

My local potato fair seems to have been cancelled this year.  I always used to mark the date (end of Jan) as the start of the season for me but looks like I'll have to go elsewhere this year.

Saves the supplier the cost of storing them in cool-store perhaps??

Yes...and sooner they get rid of that lot...sooner they have room for Easter 'stuff'... :confused3:

Nick, there is this one in London if you can hang on that long: https://www.rhs.org.uk/shows-events/rhs-london-shows/rhs-london-plant-and-potato-fair

I caved in and ordered mine when DTBrown had free postage.

Cheers sparrow - I hadnt spotted that one.  We used to have one just down the road but I guess SW1 isn't that far away...  I like the fairs as you can literally buy one or two spuds so you can try out a new variety without buying a whole bag..
