Hi All,

This is something I have been a bit hit and miss with. Last year left it to late and have paid the price nothing to see me through the spring.

I would welcome some feedback on this as to when you sow to provide overwintering cabbage cauli etc to see you through spring.

Thanks
Steve

Most of my wintering plants are sown now, and all coming up in the nursery bed.  I would hope to have the leeks in their permanent beds by the end of June and the winter brassicas not too long after that.
Then another planting of spinach and swiss chard and swede to provide something for the winter months.

If you can keep your head, whilst those around you are losing theirs,
you obviously don't realise the full horror of your situation.

I'm not usually very good with brassicas but this year I thought I
would grow some to sell to plot holders for charity.  These are my
purple sprouting broccoli and cabbage.  I also have collards and
Italian kale at the same stage.

I sowed some in June last year and they did well except they were too big before the winter and just went to seed as soon as the weather warmed slightly.  My neighbour planted out some very very small ones in September and they were tiny and remained so all winter but suddenly have put a burst on and are looking very bonny now.  So this year I am doing a very late batch too.

I sowed my seeds five days ago some are through and I expect the others to follow soon, so I guess the answer to your question is........now!

Forgot to mention I haven't sown my spring stuff yet, like the others, I will do that around mid to end of June

I was just wondering about this. I shall be sowing some cabbages, broccoli, kales etc. today then. :glasses9:

Depending on what cabbages you are sowing, Savoy type should be sown now along with over wintering Cauli. Spring cabbage mid July to September
When you wake up on a morning say "good morning world" and be grateful

Many thanks for this, I can never work out when to start the winter cabbages.
