Hi there all

I am looking to buy some strawberries for my garden but a little confused and unsure what to buy......  should I buy runners? plants?
Is is too late to plant and get a crop this year??

Thanks

Dave

Bare rooted plants (runners) as sold are cheapest way of getting stock and should still be available on line...you might get small amount of fruit this year.
Potted plants are another option...more expensive and not giving much more promise for crops than if you get bare rooted...those that are just young potted plants are just bare rooted that was potted up some weeks earlier and once establishes some they are put on sale.
Then you can buy more established potted plants..in bigger containers..those should yield some what more this year but they cost 'arm and a leg'.
If you fancy some home grown strawberries...bite the bullet..get some plants and if you don't get any/much fruit this year..next year you won't know what to do with it all! :icon_cheers:

There are places that will sell you expensive plantsin big pots that will bear this year, but you're better off spending the same money for 50 bare-roots and waiting to drown in them next year.... they'er a bit like globe artichokes and asparagus in that regard..... and most other fruiting thigns too really... first year in you won't get much, second year and it's all guns blazing...
