Have I left things too late?

Partly through weather, partly through having flu, no time etc etc, I've neither started chitting potatoes or sowed any seeds or started onions off in pots like I did last year.

Have I left it too late?

Am in the frozen NE of the Uk btw

No I dont think so.  I havent done much - due to an op followed by a neck strain.  I have only just got some seeds on and just planted up some early spuds in buckets yesterday.  It seems like a slow start for a lot of people this year.  Plenty of time but I'd get a shifty on now!
Moved to Portugal - ain't going back!

I am still in the starting blocks due to the cold weather.   Here's hoping things will warm up soon.

It flipped from dry to wet in march last year perhaps it will flip now from dull to sunny.

No you have not left things too late You do not have to chit potatoes I don't as I don't have the space I only bought my onion sets yesterday. It seems a slow start but the temperatures are below average and its so damp as well I have also just started my seeds this week.

Rain is lashing against the windows, forcast for the week ahead looks poor, I don't think we have much choice.
If there's nothing wrong with me, maybe there's something wrong with the universe!

Absolutely not!..not late at all  :icon_cheers:
Its been boring time to wait the weather to turn bit more spring like..so far I've managed to hold on and I only have odd few things 'done' but next week or so I'll start churning seed filled up seed trays and pots on increased rate :icon_cheers:
..EVEN if the forecast is promising more of the same 'not so lovely' weather... :BangHead:

As long as you buy your spuds sharpish before there's not a lot of choice left, I have some onions in and all my shallots in but are sulking in the wet cold ground so no it's not too late by any means.   :coffee2:
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

I keep thinking I'm behind, but when I look in my last year's diary I find I'm not. Anyway, better too late than too early- things will always catch up! I've made the mistake of sowing too early before and then they are ready to go out before it's warm enough.

GREGME

Not too late for either- arguably chitting is not critical even for earlies and commercial growers do not chit. With the cold weather last week we've lost at least a week anyway.

I was thinking I was getting behind too but its so cold and wet. Have just been doing a chart of all my seeds so I can see sowing times. How on earth did I manage to get all these seeds? At this rate I have no time to go to work as will be sowing so many things in April!

Robert_Brenchley

There's lots of time yet. There aren't many things I start before April.

Well here on the 'dry' side of the country we are rapidly submerging once more so what its like elsewhere I dread to think. Frost back Tues. night so we'll be skating again.
Keep heads down and seeds dry for another week or so. Hopefully after Easter the ground'll be fit for purpose at last. And to think today I sloshed a whole 10g. pkt of oldish sweet peas into a dish to see whether they'll germinate or not. Then the heavens opened...again.. :confused5:
And the plants on the windowsills aren't very happy either while those moved out to the poly have got to shape or die...
Why is it we're always in such a rush and even after decades of experience I'm still beguiled by 2 days sun and fantasies of spring :BangHead:
