Pruning Gooseberries

I've got a gooseberry bush which I bought from Aldi's a year ago and which I kept in a pot. I've now moved and have a stretch of earth along the garden fence where I would like to start growing various fruit bushes.
The gooseberry plant ( can't call it a bush yet !) has grown about two feet and I haven't touched it. Should I have pruned it even though it's not a big plant.  Am I right in thinking that any pruning of fruit bushes should be done in winter?

Some suggest pruning fruit trees and bushes in summer but you can't go wrong with winter pruning and you can more easily see what you are doing. (apart from plum type trees that are best pruned in the summer)

Because your gooseberry plant is still young you could leave off pruning this year to let it grow stronger. Or you could begin to think about an overall framework for the bush and remove any crossing or badly positioned growths so the plant's energy can go into your retained shoots.

As I say it can be left unpruned this year. Also no need to remove any gooseberries if any form. Look on them as a bonus. :happy7:

Useful points.I've also been reading the other replies to the Pruning of Redcurrants which has given some useful tips as well. I think as it's a young plant I will leave it and do it next winter. Thxs
