New Year's shed cleanout

Since I have been on our site, it has been a mystery why the other plot holders all have sheds situated so they have a little space to have a table, work area, chairs, pot plants etc. My shed always gave onto the paths so I had no room to do anything without spreading my stuff all over the paths.
This mystery has been solved: I actually had the wrong shed!
On Saturday I had to completely empty my shed and shift the contents to one behind it so now I will have a little "clear" area to put a table, some flowers etc. Sweet!
Except for the clearing out! I am of the "that might come in handy" variety...except I had hoarded loads of stuff thinking that it would come in handy and it never did!!
So out came some old window shutter boards that are now lining the plot (was handy!), loads of shredded paper and cardboard (now down on the ground and around the fruit bushes!) and some boards that are now making a new length of path. Into the skip went: loads of plastic sheeting, old bin bags, plastic bottles for cloches (just too many of them), old fruit crates that were on the verge of collapse, various bits of plastic, the old cold frame that was in pieces. I also found a nice length of fleece that I thought "might come in handy"  but then I saw it had a fossilised mouse embedded in it, which kind of put me off so that went into the skip too.

It felt great to have a clear out! And my new shed now has nails and coat hooks for hanging up things, shelves and it is n ow all clean and tidy (challenge is to keep it that way!).

Anyone else had a big clean out for the New Year?

Yes, huge clear out and reorganise but in the attics and garage.  We're planning to renovate the barn this year so I need space to store everything that has accumulated in there over the years.   This includes garden furniture in winter as well as assorted pots, trellis panels and an arch waiting to be erected, corrugated plastic sheets, old double glazing panels for making cold frames one day, the lawnmowers and other stuff that might come in handy.

Very satisfying but exhausting work.  I hope you're equally pleased with yours Antipodes.

We'll need to buy a shed for the big garden stuff but at least I now have somewhere safe and dry to store all the cushions and the two parasols while I wait for that.   Some of the timber will go to make new raised beds for a sunnier veggie plot once the barn is done and the old wooden hay loft ladder will make a good display unit for pots of pelargoniums and summer herbs.

If anyone has recommendations for sheds, shed storage systems, shed security and wood preserving treatments I'll be happy to have them.

Uh...huh...umm...no, but it is in planning....and its going to be BIG...though not sure which New Year I get round to do it...more of 'future plan' or  'when I cannot get in there' and things start happening then.
My excuse is that we are planning to shift some other 'stuff' first on other part of the plot..and then put some fencing up to keep nosy dragon  :tongue2: from next door butting in to our 'business'. Not nice to do, but sake of piece of mind and avoiding more aggro it have to be done.. :angel12:

You almost sound like you enjoyed the progress doing the clear out...and now you have your own 'hidey hole' :icon_cheers:..is there room to sit down too?

Well, there are little groups of 4 sheds: 2 have a nice flat area and 2 give out onto the path.  There are 4 sheds for 2 plots in case the plot is given as a half plot - mine is a full one. When I took on the allotment they allotted me the wrong shed :-)  the one  now have was in fact empty! But no one twigged for a long while. Actually I think it was deliberate on the part of the guy who used to run the site, he hated new people especially if you were not an old codger who would become his drinking mate, and he was sure I was hopeless (kept coming, looking and saying "that's not how you grow things"). I think he "forgot" the other shed was empty....

Not quite! But about 4 square feet in front of it. nice flat not squishy muddy path, to put a deck chair, little table and some pots for flowers, herbs etc. The lady next door often sits in front of hers with her coffee and some biscuits!  I was pleased I must say - I couldn't believe the amount of rubbish I chucked out. I can actually walk right into the shed now! LOL  There were some HUGE spiders too, and I am an Aussie so you know that it  means really big. Smelt a bit mousey too so I think someone was abusing my hospitality (probably that bloody vole again who has eaten most of the chinese cabbages again. He really seems to have a thing for them!). We also have been redoing our kitchen over the holidays so now I feel very virtuous, semi-domestic goddess etc etc  :glasses9:
