Frosted Fushcia

My fuschias were all coming into bud and greening up nicely when we had that last very cold snap and snow.  Now of course, all the green up high has gone gone gone.  I had a close look and see lots of lovely new green shoots much lower down and around ground level.  Should I prune the rest of the plant back down, or will it rebud higher up?

I'd be incluned to prune it back to about 2 " above the ground and let the plant put its energy into the new shoots.

Hi EJ, had the same problem, and my mate's dad who grows nothing but fuschias told me to cut it right back to the new growth at the bottom. I've done this and I'll now just have to wait. Looks fine though, and new growth is growing?! Anyway, he only lives up the road if it doesn't work! ;)

Oh mother nature strikes again same here me trying to grow a hedge of them.
Leave alone untill they are in full growth then prune out the dead wood and shape, this way if you want a tall bush or short bush you decide.

EJ i would cut them back to the new shoots if i were you , i had a hiccup with mine and have cut them back and already i can see a slight improvement in the growth i only did it last Friday, ;D

OKay dokey, I may do half and leave half.  Tis a shame as the plant was lovely and big, filled the space perfectly.  Oh well, I guess it will soon fill the space again.  Just hope we don't have any sudden suprise cold snaps to whip it back again!

I had two large bushes along side the door back in England. I cut them down to ground every year and every year they just got bigger...! Cut down to ground any growth not doing owt.
