Getting rid of weeds

I read this today, anyone tried it or know if it's true?

"To get rid of perennial weeds such as horsetail, thistles, bindweed, etc, without chemicals, sow turnip seed - very thickly. You won't get any edible turnips but the root secretions kill almost all deep-seated weeds. By year 3, your soil should be clear. Whacky, but it works!"

That's a new one on me. I dig out as much as possible then keep the old hoe going. Took about the same time, 3 years, but I am now inundated with horseradish!!! That will get the same treatment.

The only flaw in this is I just can't get turnips to grow!

we've heard this too. we have a lot of horsetail under our plot - hovering around like 'Jaws' waiting to strike next spring...

have been tempted to try - if we run out of cardboard and mulch!
