I have always dug a hole  double the depth of the bulb and  planted  them that way.  I.ve now gone and bought some new bulbs and seen on the packets the correct planting depths  Are they  the depth  the bulbs should be planted / room left over the top of the bulb or the depth of the hole and bulb planted on top.

I have grown around 160 at once for shows but not so many now and I have always reckoned on getting 4 or 5 inches of soil ,above the bulb. The idea for this is to keep them cool and moist during the summer , you need to produce good bulbs to get good flowers. Sorry about inches too old to change.

I meant to have said 160 varieties not just 160 bulbs. :tongue3:
