Hi folks

OH sowed some cornfield mix seeds into a border in spring. One of the few to make it to germination is a cornflower that she really likes. It's got some dry brown seed-heads on it now. I've split one apart and found a few hard seeds.

Never having seed-saved before I'm curious - do we need to dry the seeds or just sow as-is? In fact, would it be better just to let the plant self seed and save hassle?

Cheers

Gord

Gordon, they will self-seed very easily, to the extent they are almost a nuisance, although you can always pull them up if they come up in the wrong place.  And they are so beautiful, you can't really have too many.  But you can also keep the seed, taking it from a really dry seed head, and scatter them next spring, raking them in lightly.

Thanks, Peanuts. We'll just let it self seed then, it seems the easier option. Maybe worry about seed saving next year if we want them elsewhere.
