The panade recipe at the bottom of the article sounds nice.

I've never been a fan of kale, finding it so tough as to be unpleasant.  But one of the comments on the Grauniad website is interesting:

Ever wondered why kale has never become popular in Britain while in Holland it is a very popular winter vegetable? It's because you British don't know what to do with it....

Kale, I know this is not politically correct, has to be cooked LONG. It also has to be frozen before cooking, to soften the cells.
I cheat by cooking it in the microwave for 10 minutes (add some water, because it is very dry and will burn otherwise), then put it in with the spuds, and cook for another 20 mins. That brings out the lovely smokey flavour, and removes the toughness. Brilliant with bits of bacon, belly pork, or real Dutch smoked sausage.

I might give that idea a try.  :)
