I'm just emptying a compost heap....

... And starting another.  :)
It  is a simple loosely wood-sided pile that went well as it got really hot inside.
What I intend doing is using the above-ground compost to dig in in one area, but now its getting late in the season I'm not sure what would be best to plant in the compost-rich spot where it stood.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

August is the time for sowing spring cabbage, perpetual spinach, hardy lettuce.  I think I would plant my spring cabbage there when they are big enough to transplant.

I'm sure others will come along too with ideas

No kidding Digeroo. I stood back and surveyed the plot, as you do, hands on hips, then surveyed the two compost heaps and thought, "There is never enough compost."  ;D

So, having taken the top off to use in a trench, I'll cover the square metre it stood on until Courgette time next year?

I use a bit of fresh compost for my chicory and endive salads for autumn use and (if winter is not too harsh) for overwintering under cloches.  They always benefit from it and would equally like the base where the bin has been, I guess.

I did mine yesterday,a fillthy job,I am using mine to fill flower troughs and then I will be planting lettuces in them.
