Hi,

I'm putting up a polytunel in the next few weeks and will be making raised beds for them.

I've fresh manure (thanks to our donkey and alpacas) from non-treated fields, do you think it's a good idea to put this on the "base" of the raised bed now? Or would I be better to leave it piled up for a few months/year?

It's been a long time since I posted, other things kind of take over...but I've always tried to look in from time to time!

thanks

If it's field tailings then you should be OK, from memory the alpaca have no more efficient a gut than horses.... best to dig it in though...

Hiya good luck with putting up the poly tunnel.

Just wanted to say that i put my greenhouse up in mid may last year and the only stuff i had was fresh manure.

I put it on the beds and gave it a good water with the hosepipe and then planted my toms in it.

Rather than get burnt and die which is what i had been dreading they produced the biggest tomatoes ive ever had.. the cherries were the size of ordinary toms.

So i would say, whilst you should always keep a close eye on on things, that it might do no harm to plant in it so that you get a bit of friut the first year. The car boots are filled at the moment with big tom and pepper plants for very little and so definitely worth a gamble.

I collect Alpaca poo from the fields in an onion sack and suspend it in my big butt!

The alpaca lady told me that they have three stomachs.  One less than a cow and two more than a horse.

Cheers,    Tony.

Thanks for your replies. It's more a case of me being lazy, I may as well chuck it straight in when I collect it!
Seems like a good idea then!

Thanks also sunloving for the luck for the "construction". It's happening later in the season than I wanted but we had to get the ok from the mayor before going ahead. Can't wait till it arrives, then nothing else will happen in our lives!!
