Chips?

I'm lacking in materials for my compost heap and was thinking about asking my local chippy for their pealings. What do you think, good or bad idea? A free source of organic material or pesticide ridden pealings?

Lots of chip shops use horrible frozen rubbish and if you were to find a chip shop which produced proper chips, they either buy them in ready done or rumble them in a machine which produces the smallest amount of waste.

And spud peelings can grow a half decent crop of spuds!  Some people do not use potato peelings on their heap because of the possible disease risks.

What about a local greengrocer, they must have lots of waste, and florists of course, and then there is the hairdressers.......

In my teens, about errrmmm?? a few years ago!!  ;), I used to peel the spuds in our local chippy so I can corroborate what Melanie says is true. They usually rumble them in an abrasive lined drum  ;D

who ate all the pies? who ate all the pies...? etc, luckily i got myself a proper job soon after  ;D

Ooh bugger! Didn't think of that, there was me thinking they had some poor old soul peeling potatoes for a living. You'd think there would be charging £1.10 per portion.
But some good ideas there, EJ, think i'll take a walk up the high street tomorrow.
