Gardeners are being warned to wash their hands after using compost following a series of Legionella cases in Scotland over the past five years.

Guess we will have to go back to making our own composts at this rate with the
Suspected aminopyraliod damage from a well known compost brand
And the poor quality
DONT BUY THIS !!!!!!

issues it seems we are paying to destroy our plants rather than treat them

Is it not normal to wash your hands after being in the garden??

The thing is, some people smoke (hand to mouth) or even eat sweets, again hand to mouth, or even pick there nose and eat it!!  ;D I've seen that while driving as well, yuk!!

Guilty as charged  ::)

I note the Association of Organics Recycling state compost is heated "hotter than the preferred" temperature of the bacteria, not "so hot its going to kill it"!

Just caught the end of a bit on the news about some people suffering the effects of legionaires disease through handling shop brought compost. Wear gloves when handling it or wash your hands quickly after use. I have some of that anti bacteria hand gel that I use because I am not always near hot water when pottting etc.

Just seen this link from Garden Organic on fb: http://www.gardenorganic.org.uk/news/news_topic.php?id=834.

It does initially refer to home-made compost, but goes on to mention bought in as well.

But as lots of people have already pointed out, the gist of it is DON'T PANIC! :)
