Today I had a letter from the council inviting me to choose my own plot!  I have been on the waiting list since 2009, and have moved from something like 50th to 5th in 12 months!  There are several small plots right near the one I work with a friend (and again, she is a partner so we only work half a plot between us). We've been working it for 2 years and it's very organised now, and doesn't require an awful lot of work throughout the year.   I also am helping my daughter-in-law to clear a half plot, although have to confess that we've so far only managed to chop back and deal with the brambles.  There's a lot of rubbish to clear and hard digging to do there.  I would love to take on this new small plot and develop it as a fruit garden, as we have no space for fruit on the one I work with a friend.  Am I being greedy?

No your not being greedy  :D

At the start of this year I had no allotment.  I now have 2, and one will be turned purely into a fruit only site.

Go for it!!!  Trust me when I say it will be the best thing you'll do.

Yes it may take a little juggling between plots, but you can make it work.

And congratulations  ;D ;D

Well, I've just spoken to my friend and she says I should go for it, and she'll help me.  It wouldn't be far from where we are now, and we wouldn't need a shed or anything as we can just dot from one plot to another.  I can see us now, picking our own strawberries!  And we can have another asparagus bed!

go for it.

Robert_Brenchley

My single plot is 600 square yards, or three of Brown Thumb's. Plus ninety yards of hedges, which are so much work they should count as an extra plot. Go for it, and don't think you're being greedy.

As you said your well on top of your other plot, so no your not being greedy, go for it girl.    :D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

Thank you kind people for your encouraging words!

I know just how you feel.

Last year I took on an allotment on a private plot on an allotment created from a farmer's field.

The other night there was a knock on the door and it was a lady from the council allotments offering me a plot after

two years on the waiting list.

I went to see it but it was disappointing...........on a tiny space consisting of six plots,no water and marestail.

At a cost of £15 compared to the hundred I pay now it was so tempting but the reality was it was just not anywhere
near as good as I have already.

If I had nothing I would have grabbed it but I decided to pass it on....have kept my name on the list though just in case something a bit nicer turns up. :)

If you are going to work the plot then it isnt being greedy, only when people take on extra land and it is not worked then I get annoyed especially when people have been waiting years.

I'll definitely be working it-can't wait!  Somehow going off to the lottie for the day is so much more satisfying than popping out to potter in my own garden at home.  I think it's that feeling of getting away from everything-household chores, phone, internet, everything.... I spent practically the whole of yesterday on our other one and loved every minute.
