Crop Rotation

Spotted this in my new book "Organic Gardening" by Christine and Michael Lavelle.
I may just try this method, it looks very neat and a clever but simple way to rotate crops, the centre plot being for permanent crops and the corners enabling you to have a four year rotation. 8)

I borrowed a book on kitchen gardening from the library with some beautiful pictures like that. It probably creates more space for the veg  :)

I seem to recall Royton's 'allotment' bit having diagonal beds.  ???

Ah, looks lovely but..............seems hard to do the weeding inbetween, and the ugly holes when you harvest?
I have been thinking about making my beds in half circles from small to large, like a rainbow but never got around to doing it. I would need to change all the paths. Some day I just might. What's the use? None, just seems pleasing to the eye.

Thanks for that Roy allthough my plot is a bit too oblong to end up as bonny as that, it's answered what i need to rotate on my new plot.

I will invest in a book eventually :)

Slaine, I see no reason why we could not make two squares to use up the oblong length, I'm still tempted, BTW the book was only £4.99 from WH Smiths RRP £16.99 a bargain if they still have them., ideal for beginners. 8)

Ina it does look pleasing on the eye but I was mainly keen on the idea because I only have to move the planting clockwise and holes will happen in any planting, the rainbow planting sounds interesting too. ;D

This looks like a really neat idea.  Especially the clockwise movement - very simple.  Crop roataion that actually rotates!

It's a bit late for me this year as I've already started marking out and digging very conventional beds, but I shall bear it in mind for the other half of my plot.
