Now we have finally got some frosts we have been souping stuff this weekend...
Celery soup, carrot and coriander soup and beetroot chutney...
some of the carrots are too good to soup...

Excellent carrots, you must have some good soil to grow those in !

I grow them in spent growbag compost...  :)

I've still got some carrots in the ground - got some cooking to go with my roast lamb tonight.  They dont all look as good as yours though!

I have some manky ones too... but they aren't as photogenic...  ;D

I still have some lovely leeks ,swede, parsnips in the ground.  Carrots are stored in the shed, not been over cold in wales but as always  the  rain fall is terrible  Spring cabbage is looking good they are covered with builders screen mesh which seems to keep a lot of the weather off them ;D

I have savoy cabbages, parsnips, leeks and sprouts in the ground ready to harvest as and when,  onions stored in the shed.  As we cant grow carrots in the ground,  I usually grow in buckets with fresh compost.  Never thought to use spent compost.... will try that this year ;)

We brought home some leeks, yellow carrots, and jerusalem artichokes today.  They have made a very nice soup and some left for a couple of meals in the week.  I think there is enough perpetual spinach, mizuna, and green in snow to cheat on the Saag for a Saag Aloo.

Is it time to look under my JA's, then? Do I keep a few back for replanting? (That is, assuming I can find any..)

I'm told they're ready when the foliage dies back. A chap gave me some bits of root a few years back and these are the only ones I've ever planted - I get a bigger crop each year from those bits I missed but it might be wise to keep a few bits back to replant if you're more thorough than me. I leave them in the ground and dig a root when I need it. There's usually a bit of pest damage but never anything very serious.

From what I have heard from people I have tried to foist JA tubers on - try to get rid of em!!!!
