I wanted to share the brussels sprout recipe that I made at Christmas, it was a big hit! I did find it on a site somewhere but can't cite copyright  ;D
Anyways:
You need:
30g butter - 1 medium to large red onion (or a couple of shallots) - 100g of bacon (I used about 3 rashers) - 700g of sprouts - 1 large Granny Smith apple (or other variety if necessary, one that holds its shape) - 1/2 cup single (light pouring) cream
In a large heavy based pan, I melted about 30g  of butter and browned a red onion and about 100g of chopped bacon gently. I then added about 700g of sprouts (I cooked straight from frozen) and a Granny Smith apple, chopped. Salt, pepper and a couple of tablespoons of water, then lid on and allowed it to cook in its own juices (just check from time to time to see that it hasn't cooked dry!) I cooked them for about 20 mins till the apples and sprouts were tender but not too mushy.
Then, I turned down the heat and added the cream and just stir gently until everything is well coated and hot. Check seasoning and serve piping hot. That did for 5 of us and a nbiy left over for bubble and squeak :)
Then
2012 - Snow in February, non-stop rain till July. Blight and rot are rife. Thieving voles cause strife. But first runner beans and lots of greens. Follow an English allotment in urban France: http://roos-and-camembert.blogspot.com
