Any feedback on "yard long beans"

Hi all - I found some yard long beans on ebay. I've seen a thread somewhere on Tinternet saying they dont grow in the UK... need a longer growing period.. Has anyone got any feedback about these beans??

Will do. The instructions with the seeds seem ok:  Quote... _{Does not appreciate cold, damp or windy conditions and requires a warm sheltered spot to thrive.  Best planted out about 2 weeks after you would transplant tomatoes outdoors.}

So hopefully they will be ok..

Will read up a bit later on will get back to you tomorrow with personal message bean are  hardy after last frost as long as they got good compost and you water well they tend to look after themselfs but will read up  and get some seed if you have not bought any yet hold back and i,ll see if i can get some for us to try ;)

Someone on our plot grew these in a greenhouse...

not going to comment on there hardiness but i would skip planting them again do to taste considerations.

Grown them but although nice long beans they never hit the yard mark or anything near LOL

We grow them in the Polytunnel. Length is about 2 feet maximum, need a warm summer and a lot of water. We like the taste.

Bought some seed this morning 150 seeds for 95p free delivery with vegetableseeds.net if any one would like some send message with addresses :)

Tried them a couple of times, though didnt need they needed to be grown indoors, but what I can say is they certainly do nothing outside.  Shan't be trying again, there are plenty of things I know I like that can fill the polytunnel.

I believe the correct name is Dau Gauk,  grown them once but never came to much.     Cheers,     Tony.

Had a look on this website and they are misleading people by calling this a climbing French bean.  It is not.  It is an entirely different species from phaseolus vulgaris, ie French beans.  It is a vigna unguiculata,                        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vigna_unguiculata_subsp._sesquipedalis
and this accounts for its needs for much more warmth than ordinary French Beans.  Greenhouse or a very warm summer in southern parts of the country.  I have actually failed growing them in the greenhouse, but that was during a miserable summer.  They are ok here other summers in the greenhouse, but not high yielding.

Thanks for all the advice... looks like they're a non starter from the onset!! I already have the seeds so may just put a few at the bottom of the garden and enclose them in some pvc sheeting to act as hot house...

I grew some (in USA)that were very long and thin- given the seed by a south american friend and had no name- but we found them to be thin and sort of tough, less meaty than what we'd call a good bean so I never grew them again. But it was an interesting exposure.
