Fig tree care

Hi, I have a fig tree that has been transplanted into a large pot, this year we have had lots of fruit but non of it matured big enough to eat, the tree is about 5ft high , do I remove the  fruit that is still on the tree? does the tree need pruning in anyway?it seems to like the pot as it's grown well and looks very healthy, if anyone out there can help I will be very grateful

Knock off any fruit you can see... those bigger than half of your little finger nail... then the new embryos will develop as soon as it warms up in Spring and get big enough to eat by August/September...  :)

If it is growing strongly in the pot, you can cut out what you want... while it is dormant....  :)

They prune a bit like blackcurrants.. coz they fruit on one and two yr stems. Cut old branches out when they get too long to let new ones grow up.

In spring and early summer rub off badly placed shoots and in early summer pinch[out] those well placed for tying in.These will produce side growths which will produce next years crop.
Thin over crowded growth in mid-summer and cut out weak shoots the following early spring.
In mid and late summer sturdy side growths are shortened to 5 or 6 well developed leaves each.
If trees make excessive growth  and are unfruitful they are root pruned in the autumn.
I keep mine in the poly overwinter in case we get -10 again and intend to repot over winter so we can get some new soil in. It'll need a chain saw to get the old pot off ::)
