Am I the only person that hates food being served on slabs of wood or slates in restaurants?  >:(
or am I a grumpy old woman now?

I am not feeling the slab and slate thing ???

Plates are good.

"Plates are good"

I've no strong feeling on the boards, but I hate cold plates when hot foof being served ???

Doesn't worry me - variety is good!
Moved to Portugal - ain't going back!

I don't mind as long as the slabs or slate comes with plenty of tasty food...
I could just eat 2ftx2ft garden slab full of 'grub'...I'm hungry.. ;D

I don't like my dinner being served in an oversized soup plate, another current craze. Think I should be supplied with a velcro-fastening bib and one of those twisted, angled kiddy cutlery to eat it with.

Aren't they rather hard to sanitize? I prefer plates that don't have hiding places for bacteria. Yeah, call me a priss.

I was in a posh place a couple of years ago waiting for my meal and they brought out a tiny portion served on a piece of wood. "Sorry I don't understand why you're giving me a dirty stick" was greeted with a snooty bit of harumphing.

I don't like the pie being in a bowl on my plate and ask the waitress/waiter if this is so could they put it directly on the plate.   Always compliant and some have said they prefer it that way also.     Cheers,    Tony.

Wooden chopping boards are actually more hygenic, easier to clean, self healing and harbour fewer nasties than plastic boards.   Humanity has survived and thrived through millenia of eating off wood before pottery could be produced in huge industrial quantities affordable to everyone.

It's traditional here to serve a selection of Belgian Ardennes charcuterie and cheese on a wooden board and people still use them to "tartiner" - make and serve a sandwich usually with a long slice from a shallow, round loaf.

That said, I like cooked foods and fancy sallds on a plate, be it square, round or oval.    Bowls are for soups and proper English puds such as crumble and custard, sticky toffee pudding, jam roly poly and so on.

I like eating from these shallow bowls. You can control your food easier.

I am a great one for sending food off the plate LOL

Ain't worried what it is served on as long as there is a proper meal on it. A couple of carrots and the mark of Zorro is an insult.

We've cooked breakie on a clean shovel and turned with a trowel before and we all ate fish and chips fom newspaper when we were younger with no ill effects. What I cannot stand is eating raw oysters straight out of the shell. Tried it once and swallowed it 4 times before I spat it out.

Aw raw oysters  :P did it once in Rome (2004) and when I can afford them again, will have another two!

I did a steak on a hot brick in Portugal and kept moving it off as it was cooking too quickly  :(

Plates for me every time!
