Strange rent increase

Last year the Council told us that rents would be going up in three stages, starting this year.  Just before rent was due this year, we had a letter from the Council  saying that it would be two stages instead of three, meaning that next year it will go from what it is this year (£40 full size plot for under age 60) to £75.

This decision has been made by senior Council Officers and councillors and overules what was decided by the Allotments Department  the year before..

(reading this back, I think I've made it sound more complicated than it actually is!)

I am over 60 so next October I will be paying £75 for my two plots  which I think is very good value but I can appreciate that some people might have difficulty finding the money. I don't agree with the way the original rent increase plan has been changed though.

There's more about it here:-

It hasn't got as far as my site committee yet, so this is the first I've heard of it. It's disgusting, but I'm not sure how to react. People are too reluctant to fight, as we saw some years ago when we had a bullying committee. In the end they weren't hard to deal with, yet the problem had been there for twenty years.

We had a fight with our Town Council and won...even got a mention on the news.

John our association secretary documented what happened on his blog Allotment Heaven.
