Butternut Squash Skin Scab?

Picked some of the squashes last week - all the skins were smooth, clean etc. During the week a few of them have developed dark patches.

Any ideas what this might be and is it bad news?

Mine were slow to ripen,they seemed ok but now have dark -almost bruising under the skin.A friend has the same and we've never seen it before.
