Any ideas how to get rid of millipedes in the allotment, they have ruined my carrot crop this year it is hard enough controlling the carrot fly yet alone these things.

Are you sure it's the millipedes causing the problem? Usually, they move in and feed on rotting matter after something else has done the damage.
