I bought my first ever hydrangea last year & it's happily growing by itself in a very large pot.   The one piece of info I took on board was "don't dead head it" which I followed religiously, even though I thought it made the plant look untidy.

I've still got some dead heads attached to the plant (despite the recent snow) but there are masses of new growth on the plant.

Is there anything else I need to do?   Pruning, perhaps?

Hi C.C.
Mop head and Lacecap Hydrangeas flower on growth made during the previous
season. Lightly prune is early spring cutting out any thin, twiggy growth. Remove dead flowerheads pruning back to a strong pair of buds. Remember this years growth next years flowers.
A little better than yesterday but not as good as tomorrow

Yup, I will tidy mine up any day now and take off all the floppy heads.  Already thinned it out a little.  I think another good reason to leave the heads on is to protect the tender new growths from the rotten weather, so maybe hold on for a week or 2........
