Collected our first hens yesterday from mumbles farm, 2 light Sussex, one speckled and a ranger?.
Named Rosemary, Thyme, Sage & Onion
All at point of lay. settled them into the hen coop and let them out this morning all still very nervous.
Gave them some layers pellets in the feeder and a hand full of corn this afternoon.

Opened the hatch cover to the nest box, mainly to tease the other half that we had eggs and surprise,  surprise there really was one.

so its poached, fried, boiled or scrambled for dinner.

well if I was a chicken called Rosemary, Thyme, Sage or Onion, i'd be nervous too

why not go the whole hog and call them You, Won't, See and Boxing Day?

Congratulations on your first egg.....and getting one so quickly :) We poached our first egg and hubby and I had half each! Welcome to the world of hen keeping it is more fun than you can imagine. I am new to keeping hens myself and the advice from seasoned hen keepers on here is invaluable.
Enjoy your new flock (love the names)

what does everyone use to clean their eggs when they collect them?
I'm just using warm water to wipe them over.

Don't use water, just a damp cloth or tissue.  Washing eggs is something you shouldnt do apparantly

sorry phil,

i meant with a damp cloth, but with nothing on the cloth but warm water.
