Anyone out there into sub-aqua diving?
I have been doing a course with the British Sub Aqua Club and we have been learning in a swimming pool.
We are now preparing for our first "open water" dives which will be at Stony Cove (midlands somewhere) in a quarry on March. The water temperature will probably be about 6 degrees C.
I'm getting a bit worried about it all - but do want to be successful - think it will be a big achievement for me...

Hi Sarah,

I did a lot of diving until a couple of years ago -got to the giddy heights (depths) of DL.

Stoney Cove -mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :)

If you take it all slowly and surely and remember to suck and blow and stick close to your instructor/DL you should be fine, it'll never be a coral reef but you won't risk of spoiling yourself for anything later  ;D

Stick with it -there's lots of fun to be had.

P.S. If you've any questions, or feel the need for encouragement you can always PM me.

My OH has done quite a bit, in fact he was due to go off with some mates this Spring to the Red Sea...mmmm...have to ask him about that.

Ever since seeing an underwater observatory in Australia, I've been keen to try diving. Not sure about the Octopus though, but he didn't come out of his lair!

Enjoy!

Sarah,

I meant to say, in case your club has a particularly macho attitude, diving is one of those sports, like sailing, which the girls can do just as well as boys. You generally don't breathe so much, so ypu can get away with lighter cylinders and probably a light weightbelt too.

And now you can get colour-co-ordinated dry suits & BCs and the boats have showers!
