Did anybody else took notice last nights program that all wasn't quite up to 'standard'..?
Monty showed how to do comfrey 'tea'.."I just use leaves".."one that I made week ago"..and with all bits of the plant floating on surface..and he could have done the batch earlier and show viewers how it looks when ready..the week old 'soup' didn't really give no idea to anybody who haven't done it before.
And..his hellebores.."these are seedlings from this years seeds "...WRONG! ::)...they would be from last year..this years won't germinate untill next spring..needing cold treatment first..
Ohh..that's better..got it off my chest now.. ::) ;D
But those purple mangetout peas.. :o I WANT SOME OF THOSE SEEDS!..but he was only trialing them..so I'll have to wait .. ::)
And the garden Carol visited..bit of wild one..OHHHH..just my kind of place..beautiful..

Ohh..and another one I forgot... ;D Monty was marking those poppies..the nice ones to save seeds from..
What a waste of efford..cross fertilization would be definate for so close spacing between different sorts..so each seed pod will have bit of everything.. ::)

Duke Ellington

I think Monty needs some new jackets  :-X
dont be fooled by the name I am a Lady!! :-*

GL - with all due respect - this is not IMHO a scientific programme. It's one guy or gal chatting about what they do and how it turns out. Maybe it should be better? I don't know. I quite enjoy Monty and co. With all their warts.

Toadspawn

I am afraid I agree with Goodlife. Monty should have said that poppies are very promiscuous and to get plants of the same colour from home saved seed, particularly when the plants are growing so close cannot be guaranteed.
I like Carol but I wish she would stop promoting root cuttings of Geraniums because they are so easy to divide.

I think they have been in Sarah Raven's Catalogue for a few years now
I love my traditional English Cuckoo Marans and their lovely big brown eggs

We only watched a bit of it and to be honest he doesn't seem to be very practical. When he planted things he didn't rough the sides of the compost to get the roots going. The poppy seed stuff was really basic, but the thing that got me was that he threw his dirty spuds right on top of his lovely clean lettuce. Why oh why can we not have a veg  gardening programmme that tells it as it is.
Thank goodness for A4A.
When I get old I don't want people thinking
"What a sweet little old lady"........
                             I want em saying
"Oh Crap! Whats she up to now ?"

I watch GW for light entertainment -except when they occasionally look round some good gardens/nurseries and see the real experts. Agree with Toadspawn - i like Carol but not everyone wants hundreds of cuttings of the same plant and it's shown so often!
for a real garden- Beechgrove on BBC Scotland. I just need OH to put it on for me as I cannot remember how t do it each week :-[

I restarted to watch Gardeners World when the new series started but I`m sorry I just cannot take it anymore.
I  look at Beechgrove Garden and also the Welsh gardening Programme on S4C (its got subtitles)
The problem I have with Gardeners World is that there is very hands on stuff and what I would call proper gardening

I think they have been in Sarah Raven's Catalogue for a few years now  ::)..no wonder I haven't seen them..I don't look at her site..she is usually so expensive with her plants and things..

I do agree with you on that..but if they do go trouble of explaining something..I would expect they would get their facts right. And it is quite often there is some 'facts'/info that is not quite correct. I don't take it too seriously neither..but just sometimes these little things do irritate..after all they are suppose to be experts and they do get payed lot of money for it too..maybe I should lighten up a bit.. :-\
But it just makes me wonder..don't nobody edit/check what they teach/say?..they could be teaching any gobledygoo if they want?
Generally I do like Monty and his style of gardening..

How do you trim your "quote" - it looks so much tidier than the way I have done it.

By the way I don't use Sarah Raven's site either (wasn't she on Gardeners World last time Monty Don was on?), but I googled purple podded mange tout and a thread came up another forum from around 2007 so I just thought I would pass the info on in case you wanted some.

I suppose although they are expensive it would be very easy to save seed, and future years need cost nothing.  I did notice he said they tasted good, but in my experience of TV presenters they are generally more effusive with their praise if it genuinely is good  ;)

all the best

In the middle of watching it I had to depart rather quickly, to puke. Nothing to do with the progaramme, I hope ::) ;).

You are not "expecting"..are you?.. :-X
How do you trim your "quote I drag mouse over (highlighting) the text I want...then click copy and paste it on my new post..highlight it again and use 'hash' key/button on next to typewriter button..or..you can copy the whole text and delete the bits you don't want..
I suppose although they are expensive it would be very easy to save seed Well yes..but that's why I think is rip off ..I can understand paying for something that is difficult to produce..but peas..
I'm going to have a look her site.. ::) ..and hope that I've been proven wrong..I didn't even know she was selling veg seeds..I thought she was 'flower woman'. ::)

Just checked..Sarah Raven's site sell purple podded peas ...but they are not the mangetout type like in GW.

Like that! ;) thanks again Anja

I'd rather they made more about Joe's allotment.  Basically, cause I want to know how he keeps his hat so clean.  I am mystified.

I have saved Purple Podded from HSL (The first one they offered as there are now about five) and it makes a nice mangetout if you get them small enough...  :)

I thought Monty's garden looked neglected.  I don't like his designs either especially all the hedging he has around his vegetable and flower gardens.  I much preferred Barnsdale or Barleywood.

I watch the show each week and do pick up some tips now and again, but not normally from Monty.   I especially enjoy the input from Carol and I love her Devon garden.  I also like to see the other gardens that get featured.

To prove a point. This poppy came from a black flower
