Please - should not Festival & Turk's Turban be 'stopped' to give laterals?

And what might be the yellowing of the veins one just one plan t of the latter?

Hi Tim,

Festival  is a semi  bush type so leave it alone. Turks Turban is really only decorative but folks do eat it. I don't prune any vining squash or pumpkins,I know others do if they want bigger fruit etc but I would just let it go.It will grow a long vine.

Re the colouring,I am pretty sure it isn't a disease which means it is sun, water, or nourishment. About this time of the year mine routinely  get a shovel full of good aged mannure around the plant base, I had a few last week that had a bit of yellowing on them but they have picked right up.

I water for  while especially when it is very hot but when the plants get good strong roots I find I don;t need to unless we get no rain for a long time. The ground under the plants looks quite dry, has it been so for a while. The mnaure works well as it mulches as well as feeds, I would go for that, should fix it.

I like Festival, nice tidy plant so don';t be chopping bits of that one for sure!!
