Hi
Once again I have hit problems that I hope someone has the explanation for!

My strawberries were wonderful last year but this year they are all leaf and No fruit!?

Any idea what I have done wrong? I am finding it all a bit disappointing :'(

Thanks Ripley

Have you had any flowers on them at all, some of my flowers got caught in the cold snap and the centre turned black, and the fruit didn't develop.

The deer ate all the winter leaves from my neighbours plants while mine were nettled.  And then when netted and fed produced an amazing crop.  I thought I would experiment by leaving some unnetted over the winter for the deer next year.

I bought some plants from Ken Muir and they came with a little book about growing strawberries and it says to cut off all the leaves after they have flowered.  Thought it was a bit drastic so have only done some but after only a few days they look very good with a nice crop of new fresh leaves.

Thank you for your replies.
I really have no idea what I am doing most of the time. I get my biggest guidance by reading what people have done today in their allotments.

So when the couple of strawberries I have are gone I will trim the plants right back ( not just old leaves?)
Then I will give a good mulching with good compost and fingers crossed for next year!

Thank you for support it is really making a difference as I don,t seem to be winning at the moment but I really don,t want to give up my Lottie as I love it there. However - no produce!

Thanks Ripley

Was last year the first year for your strawberries, they may have exhausted themselves, maybe a bit of a feed would help  :)
don't give up hope, you'll win in the end

Thanks I needed that encouragement Ripley

I trim back the leaves after flowering and remove the runners.
Otherwise everything gets too congested and the fruits cannot ripen or get botrytis.

Seems drastic but works :)
