Went to Ryton today - was there just after 10am and the carpark was full to bursting. By noon, Charlotte had sold out.

Apart from one variety (Mimi), I picked up (with the help of my son) 3 seed spuds each of Atlanta, Colleen, Kondor, Lady Christl, Winston, Aldo, Blue Mandel (a Swedish variety I believe), Rocket, Merlin, Symfonia, Remarka, Edzell Blue, British Queen, Orla and Verity. Solanum, who according to the balloon they gave my helper) are quality suppliers of potatoes to Waitrose, were selling seed tubers for Salad Blue (got 5) and Highland Burgundy Red (which I tried last year). They were also selling eating potatoes - got some Fortyfold (sold as microplants by T&M), Roseval and Arran Victory. Oops - nearly forgot the Sarpo varieties. I grew 3 last year, but Tominia has been delisted as it is too similar to Mira. They couldn't lay their hands on Axona for today, so I bought just 3 Mira.

Better start eating more eggs as I only have one x6 egg tray.

edit - just corrected a typo.

That's a huge variety to grow, I didn't know there were so many, most of those names I've never heard of.  I've only got two kinds to try this year, but it is my first year growing spuds. I also had an egg tray crisis, we've been using up all the old ones giving away our "home grown" eggs so the spuds are chitting in an old grill tray out of the oven.

The beauty of these potato days is that you can try all sorts of different varieties - growing one plant of each if you like (and have the room). Supermarkets these days have a wider choice of potatoes for eating which now often state the variety.

I've just come back from the public day, carpark full at 12 ish when we arrived. Had a look around the garden as I've never been there before.

In addition to what I've already got (1.5kg each of Pentland Dell, Concorde, International Kidney and Rocket) I got 2 each of Juliet, Nicola, Maris Piper and Picasso.

I think I'm already going to have too many spuds for my patch this year  :)

That's an impressive range you came away with Multi  :D

Think we bought over 120 seed tubers last year at Ryton  :o  ::)
Think it works out at about 60 this year.   ;D
