Normaly I check the BB every morning when I let the dogs out. If frozen the first kettle of hot water goes in the BB the second is to make me a cuppa.
Well yesterday I forgot and looked out to find a rather upset collard dove walking over the ice and trying to crack it with her/his beek. I put the kettle on and turned back to watch when it saw me well if looks could kill enough to say come on what do you think your doing.
Birds get use to you doing a regular pattern do not change they need fresh water more than food now.

Teresa my birds organise me i have to see to them before i do anything else.
If i go to my rubbish bin and then go to get me little Robin his little treat he is there waiting when i go back. Its amazing they know the time when you are going to put there food out,he watches me from somewhere each morning makes my day when i see him comes right up to the doorstep. I also have bluetits, and greatits ,songthrush, blackbirds,a few sparrows, and of course 2 pidgeons,2collard doves i really enjoy them, always have done.
I have a squirrel comes down everyday also, i am going to try and get a photo of him brazen little chap. i hope people are putting food and water out on a regular basis for the birds. We have had the bluetits in and out the box but its far to early yet, bit worried really.

Hi
I feed and water the birds regularly.  I am out there well before the sun has risen and just on time to catch the blackbirds and robins who are early .... birds  ;)
As you say, their requirement for water is greater than that for food and it must be supplied on a daily basis.

I now feed them home made cakes (leftover of the sunday roast and fat, mixed with wildbird seed and nuts). bread and lard and sometimes raisins and apples.  They do get used to coming down and wait on the fence for me to finish off serving them.   :D

Enjoy today to the full.  You are not sure of a tomorrow.
