I have some small Oca tubers if anyone fancies growing them this year. I would have had some Ullaco too but they got added to the soup pan by mistake  :o

No need for a swap but you will need to send me a small padded self addressed envelope with postage of £1.39 for 1st or £1.17 for 2nd.  Put your user name and Oca on the envelope to make it nice and easy for me. I'll send a few tubers which should give you enough of a harvest to have some to taste and then if you like them you will be able to save some tubers to grow for your next crop.

Offer open to contributing members of the forum, you can be new as long as you have been joining in, before I post this.

Hi Jayb, am I too late?

I hope not!  I was really interested in this plant last year when I heard about it here, but forgot to order any for this year.

Do you have any left and is it too late for me to plant?

Happy to send SAE of course.

Many thanks

Bronwen

Having lost access to the big greenhouse (when I came off the committee) last January the ones in small pots never got into the ground and were killed by the frosts (even in a cold greenhouse). Let me have a firkle for the one that was growing in the compost bin by accident... I may still have some there. I lost my Yacon too... but am waiting on my second poly...  :-X

I lost mine in the mayhem last year when I was unwell and couldn't keep up. I'll get you an SAE in the post if you still have some.

You can have a few of mine if you want Robert.  I managed to save enough to start again after the disaster of the extra cold winter. Just PM your address.

Jayb

Yes, if you have not been sorted I have some spare  :)

Are the Oca's all gone?

I've had a bit of an Oca disaster this year:  all the tubers I saved from last season dried out and started to sprout.  When I discovered this I promptly planted them, however all but three of them rotted in the pot (planted too deep, I think).  At the moment I have only three plants and could really do with some more, as i fear I only have enough to propagate my stock.

This is only my second year growing them, so I think I have a bit to learn  . . .

And your Ulluco tubers; I've been looking from some all year, if you have extras at the end of the season could we come to some agreement where I might acquire some??

They should be OK, but it's been an odd year. I planted a few weeks ago, and only two have come up so far; I haven't checked whether the others are all right, but I will now! JayB's sent loads anyway, so it doesn't matter much.

How tall is Stephen's pea? I can't find it on the net. The Goldensweets are in already; I'm glad to have that one since it's probably one that Mendel used for his original breeding experiments.

hi jayb,
got my parcel today, thankyou so much, really really kind of you.best wishes.please pm me if you need anything, anytime.

Jayb

Yayyy, glad they arrived  :).

Robert, sorry I can't quite remember how tall Stephen's pea is, but it is a climber, with maroon flowers and purple pods.

Hi El Rabano, welcome to A4A. Sorry out of Oca for this year. It might be worth having a go at taking stem cuttings of your Oca's to increase your plants. They should still have enough time to grow into strong plants by the Autumn. I lost most of my Ulluco last year, so fingers crossed for me. But if I do have spares I'll offer them at the start of next year.

I'll give them my standard six-foot poles and see what happens!

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate that they went fast.  Sorry, to hear about your Ulluco too, it's a total bummer when you loose you plants . . .(like my Oca ;))

I however have had a good turn, as far as the Oca are concerned, this weekend; as I was preparing our three sisters bed,  I managed to find three rouge tubers hiding in the earth, two of which had already sprouted!  I must of some how missed them when I tried to harvest the Oca from the frozen ground this winter!

Woo Hoo!  We might to get to eat some this year.

Oh, and thanks for your advice about taking cuttings, I'll defiantly give that a try.

Mike
