With today being the royal wedding day I decided to harvest some Swift potatoes that had been growing in the greenhouse during the winter. The crop is not huge but they have been harvested a bit too soon and there were plenty more tubers forming which would have been great in a few weeks time.

Anyway here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CL9xYyJ-U7M

I also have a few photos of them just waiting to be washed a devoured.

You seem very proud of your harvest so congratulations to you for your achievement.

A nice clear video account for us all to watch is welcome.

Personally I would have left them longer but I do understand the desire to try and I hope the flavour was magnificent for you.

Yes thank you for sharing that, it is always a treat when those first ones are dug up. no matter what the yeild or size, there is something very special about them

Well I just hit it lucky really. Now that I have done it once I will have to try it again and see if i can get them even earlier.

We had a family tradition about the very first potatoes. We tried to start a tomato plant indoors way before the usual time in the hope that we could get it to fruit way before even early, it had to coincide with the first peas, also pushed on  and the first tatties..with lots of butter and would you believe a can of corn beef, it was a yearly treat.

Sometimes that first tomato was carved with loving care to stretch to feed is all just so we could do it.

Good days.

Maybe next year you can start a challenge.
