Hi All.
I have planted celeriac for the first time, But they have come up with rounded leaves like dock. I thought they would resemble celery. Can anyone tell me if I am right or not!

Their true leaves are like celery. Did you sow them outside? Mine are still indoors on the window ledge and won't go outside until well into May ( or they'll be cloched if earlier).

I hope you'll forgive my asking a secondary question about celeriac. It is, we are told, quite tender and shouldn't go out until mid-May - June, but mine quite happily survives sub zero temperatures and  - over the last two winters - massive amounts of snow and ice. So does it stop being tender when it gets bigger or is it tough as old boots?

The seeds I planted were from T&M plantedin seed compost indoors they have been up for two weeks have about 4to6 leaves but nothing like celery!

They look nothing like that! Must be wrong seeds in packet, will have to wait and see what they grow into let's hope it's edible!

I started mine indoors, but as soon as they were big enough they were transfered into modules and spent the rest of the time in my cold greenhouse, so they can't be too tender.

Mine look as in the pic, but not as leggy.
If there's nothing wrong with me, maybe there's something wrong with the universe!

Can you post a photo? Or send a photo to T & M and ask them what's up? They are usually OK and will probably replace them if you've got the wrong thing.

Every seed germinated this year so I'm swamped with them so I planted out 24 last week  :)

Mine too! Actually the rest of the ones you sent me last year!!! But I l.o.o.o.o.ve celeriac so I don't mind!!

I decided to use up all my old pack, must have a hundred  ;D
seriously though, celeriac/potato mash is excellent  ;D

OH doesn't like squash, celariac & all sorts. It's surprising how devious I've become with him ;D ;D ;D.

Celeriac is only hardy when fully grown, the seedlings aren't..... Mine are in modules still and they look a lot like parsley seedlings do when they're 3-4" tall...

I know these are celeriac, but I'm having problems deciding which trays are coriander and which are flat-leafed parsley since the kitten decided to play with the labels!!

They look like celeriac.... or possibly coriander or flat-leaf parsley.... it's pretty hard to tell...... If they smell of celery then they're celeriac, if they smell of cat pee then they're coriander....

My seed packet only had 10 seeds in it but the smell of celery was very strong.
Started mine ages ago and they took ages to germinate.  I have moved them outside in their modules and they are still not very big.
Time will tell I guess.

10 seeds?...get them from Franchi, you get millions :-).... I start four off in each cell of a 24-drop module and thin to the strongest 12.... then they get potted up into 12-drop modules.... hardened off from there and planted out mid-may.... water like crazy .... mine sit on a spur of the autowatering to the greenhouse so they get a couple of hours a day every other day on microbore leaky pipe looped through their bed...

Mine have just gone in but will be covered with double fleeced cloche later today.
