Potatoes

I have been told today that when the leaves on my potatoes start coming through, I have to cover them with soil.
Is this true

Yes..keep earthing your potatoes up when they show above ground...keep doing it until you can do it no more...ie,you run out of soil.You will get a bigger crop that way...and covering them protects from frost
