Many many thanks to you all,am only just getting things sorted, in fact I still have to go back today to our previous home to collect plants etc. Uncertain yet what will happen about my collection of daffs as there is not any garden here and the allottments are rather a way away. It is going to be very strange not going out into the garden to work but I have really enjoyed my working life. My talks will continue in fact I have bookings up to Oct. next year so plenty to look forward to . Once agin many thanks for your good wishes.

I had an allotment back in the 50s but since i got married 1960 we have lived in a tied house and so had large gardens which kept us in veg through the year but all good things come to an end and our employer passed away in October so we ahve got to move on. I t was suggested I just stayed where we were and then I could start work for whoever bought the place. But as I am almost 80 I did not really want to start a new job.

It must be a terrible wrench for you.  The pictures you have posted of your garden were so spectacular.

Is there somewhere who would adopt your collection and allow you to help maintain it?

Things are never so bad as they seem to start, I have got a very small allotment. It will be quite a time before I can plant as the soil is full of couch grass. I forked a small area and got more couch roots than I can lift. I have permission a have a row of sweetpeas in front of the flats so can look forward to cutting some nice blooms.

Many thanks for all your comments, things are getting better. I got permission to open up a trench for my sweetpeas in an area of grass in front of the flats. I managed to get down 2 spade depths and got compost from our old garden so maybe they will do OK. With the canes all neatly tied to support wires they look neat and tidy and I am sure when I offer bunches to other tenants there will be no complaints.
I also have got a very small allotment, it is full of couch at the moment so it will keep me busy for a while.
Antipodes seemed surprised that I am only now retiring but to me age is a number and it is how you feel rather than how long you have lived that counts. I had a bad scare about 14 years ago and ended up in Guys having multiple heart bypasses that made me want to keep active and live my life.
The flat we have been lucky to get looks out over the fields and we can watch the birds, deer ,rabbits etc. when we get a chance to sit down  ;D.
Thanks once again for your concern but all looks good.
The  chairman of the housing trust is also chairman of a local horticultural society where I hope to show some of my sweet peas. I had offered the plants for sale earlier so he will be surprised to see them on the show bench.
