Allotment Fees

Hi All!  I've not been here for ages!

I've just had a letter from my council saying the fees for a 5 pole plot have increased to £56.  This has doubled since last year.   :o

What do you all pay for your plots and where in the UK are you?

Been a while.  If you do a quick search,  there are a number of recent threads on this topic.  Most sites have seen a drastic rise in rents; some much more than yours.  Your rent is around the average mark, with some much less but many costing much more.

£17 a year for 1/16th of an acre. Not sure what that is in rods

Unwashed did a good survey last year, it would be good to have that updated to track increases.

This subject comes up every year - so I'm gonna brag again!
Has gone up this year for TWO full size plots to £10!
Not a council jobbie of course, a piece of ground belonging to the 2 Church Wardens.

There is a rule that the council can only increase the price of leisure activities by the same percentage.

So, if your council has doubled the cost of one leisure activity and only increased that of another by less. Then you can point out to them that they are acting illegally.

Check on how much other leisure activities have increased in your area to see if you are being fleeced.

If all the incriments are all 10% 100% or even 1000000%. Then there is nothing you can do other than by your vote.

we have had a 52% increase in our rent this year

I had a rant about it back in October time when rent was due... it is still cheap for what we get, but still not as cheap as it used to be

A rumour tells me that ours is going up 30% to £9.70 per pole, I haven't done my figures yet.   :'( :'( :-\

Mine works out at £11.20 per pole if you have a half plot or £10.80 for a full plot.  Unfair if you ask me.  :(

The facts are

1........You can not get the facility cheaper else where can you?

2..........There are more people wanting an allotment than there are allotments so if you have one. You are lucky.

we pay £15 a year or at least we did last year, haven't had our renewal notice yet for this year, but we get sod all help of the council, we had to organise a grant to get the water turned on and pay for fencing ourselfs.

£60 a year for a 10 rod pt, up from £41 last year, and £30 about 5 years ago. This in Caterham, Surrey. Cheap in terms of buying or renting some land, but frankly getting to be a bit of a p take, as no matter what the cost it can't possibly make any material difference to the Council budgets.

Ours has been £20 for the past 3 or 4 years.....this year its £10.Although we are a council owned site,we set out own rent.

That would be interesting wouldn't it.  I think there have been some substantial increases this year.  I'll start a thread in The Basics.

I paid my bill for a ten-pole plot a couple of weeks ago - £47.10 this year.  It was £47.10 last year too, and £47.10 the year before that as well. ;)  Read your tenancy agreement - if their isn't a fair term to allow the landlord to impose an increase with sufficient notice then the increase can't be enforced.
