My allotment has been dug up but there's loads of clumps of what looks like moss around.  I've collected lots up but how do I get rid of it?  Will it work in the composter or does it survive that?  Thanks  :)

If it is moss..yes you can put in compost bin..and it will eventually rot off..or..you could put in bottom of your potato trenches and it will be sorted under the soil..or..you can use it to line your hanging baskets.. ;)

If you grow orchids make your own compost its better than the shop stuff ;D ;D

Thanks, so it won't survive in the composter to then spread out later will it?

I had to google marestail as I've never heard of it before.  It doesn't look like that .. it's quite short and well, looks like moss.  It's been broken up by the rotavator so it's now all over the place.

I'll try a photo tomorrow just to check.

Moss needs light the same as any other green plant. It can survive dessication for months, but not darkness.
