vanmeuwen  have emailed with this offer which they say is £100 worth of garden goods for £10 though they don't specify what you might get.

I have had some of their plants in the past (hence the email)  They weren't good but they weren't all that bad, and if fact I think they source from the same place as T&M who of course are no longer what they were.

Anyway I just thought I would post it incase anyone wanted to give it a try.  Though I probably shan't take the offer up

All the best

I belong to the school that believes that if an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is,

I think what is on offer is a load of plants that they have not managed to shift.  Very basic plants.

Yes, I know I'm a bit of a cynic.

I find it suspicious that they don't tell you what they're offering.

There is another thread running about this offer and I think that at least three A4A users have placed an order. Hopefully they will report back on what they receive in their surprise parcel.

having binned all the plants from my front garden i need to put something in which means even if i get something basic its not going to be much of a loss as i have a blank canvas and its going to take me a few weeks to grow plants from seed to make the front garden look pretty.

Same for the back garden i have a massive flower border and a smaller border which are all blank so i am sure i can make use of whatever they send me.

I can understand what you are saying cambourne7, but be very, very careful.  There can be some absolute thugs in/out there.

When we first moved here in 1973, we hadn't a load of spare money, and wanted (as I believe you do) to put a bit of colour in the garden.

I was given a small cardboard box of what was then known as montbretia, but is now known as a member of the crocosmia family.  Total absolute and utter thug.  Nearly forty years later I'm still pulling it up.  A few years after I planted it I dug up three barrowloads of corms.  Once you get something like that in your garden it's very hard to erradicate, believe me.

What I think is on offer is 'cheap and cheerful', but I would be very careful.  Some of the plants could be very invasive.

Don't be too impatient to cover your blank canvass.  Take time and plan.  We did the opposite and are suffering as a result.

If push comes to shove, sow a load of hardy annuals out there.  Lavatera is one of my favourites.

Take your time cambourne.

Plant lots of annuals, you'll get the seed cheap enough. Meanwhile grow on some nice perennials.

Yes i am going to see what there is before i plant anything 2 thugish is going into a pot and given to a friend of mine whos back garden has been cemented over by there landlord as he cant be bothered to maintain it so they need a bit of colour.

My thinking is i could buy a lottery ticket and waste my money or get excited whenever the postman knocks :)
