Mouldy chits?

Hi everyone

I've got some potatoes (Markies) chitting away quite nicely, but there seems to be a sort of mould on the chits.

(look at the one nearest the camera, the ones to the right are a different variety and seem perfectly OK.)

Is it mould, or is that just they way they are?

Mould or no mould, the chits seem to be growing quite nicely, but if I put them in the ground will I get a healthy crop, or will I get a deadly fungal infection in the soil which will be there for ever more?

???

Looks fine to me... some chits have a very fine white "hair" on them.. most noticeable on dark (red) sprouts..  :-\

flitwickone

I think they are Ok but if still not sure you could break one off and look under a magnifier or feel to see if slimy.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'd never seen this fine white 'hair' before.

I live and learn!

Quite a ot of reds have hairy chits.... looking at the windowsill a few feet from me that has 8 or 9 varieties on it I'd say 20% are hairy.....
